FLICKER *

*

Flicker

All the world it reels, it splits
Behold, such strange and sullen clouds--
Storms whirl and whine through dismal days
Tired poison falling down.

My eyes, my eyes
So sick to see
Iniquity and shame
Dressed in glamour, glint and fire
Men mock the Holy Name.

Wandering and praying
Longing for that sky
Where sapphires under gird the throne
And love rules true and high.

My heart regards the living Word
And He who shines within
Who turned my howling fear to peace
And washed me of my sin.

In these earthen casks we wonder
At the eternal weight of light
That warms and glows, in you, in me
To strengthen, in this night.

Matthew 5:14-16 King James Version

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Whom Will Ye Serve?

Evil likes to hide; to masquerade as goodness, peace and equity; to make itself look morally outraged and indignant. Evil likes to manipulate the base desires of mortal men; to condemn with religious fervor; to elevate it's delusion as "expert opinions" and "truth". Evil likes to wear religious robes, and stand under patriotic banners; it flatters; bribes; excuses; panders. Evil likes a veneer of good intentions; elevated consciousness; social justice and common popularity.

Truth stands in the Light, doesn't mind looking bad or being called names; exposes evil no matter how it might offend the sensibilities of the rich and powerful, and no matter what the personal cost. Truth convicts the hearts of men and inspires a person to stand up for what is right (and not always what is easy or popular). Truth wears no uniform, dons no symbolic secrets, and doesn't fit into slogans or soundbites. Truth doesn't care about prestige, popular opinion, or power-- but about people. About right and wrong. Truth serves the God of Truth-- the God who sent his own Son to die, to save this fallen world.

Evil likes to pretend to be all-powerful, invincible, all-seeing and god-like. Courage and heart for truth are rare in a world that bows and scrapes before father of lies. But there is still the Almighty God who sees, and soon will judge the hearts of men. Who sits on the throne-- forever.

His name is Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:10-12  (KJV)

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Joshua 24:14-24 (KJV)

14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Spiritual Warfare

SPIRITUAL WARFARE

How are you, today?
Is your heart finding comfort in the Word?

Isn't it strange, how distractions and fatigue interrupt, seemingly for a second or two, but then--

One second,
            and then another,
this or that "little thing", we think,

Oh, I must attend to this distraction, this obligation
First,
Lest I be thwarted from reading the Holy Word, from the golden light of prayer

And thus there is the thwarting,
                  the impasse,
                                  the hindrance
One second after another, strangling eternity

Matthew 11:12 (KJV)

12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

In Christ I wrest each moment from my flesh,
It screams and screams
Not now.. in just a minute...
Do this... do that...
Attend to this itch,
            this ache,
                         this hunger,
                                   this memory
All are earthly delusion:

FLESH

To be crucified in this miniscule, moment,

BY THAT ETERNAL GLORIOUS FORCE:

(I stammer)

"LORD JESUS,  HELP ME!"

2 Corinthians 6:2 (KJV)
2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

And then the LORD comes, ever so gently,
Lifting me out of the dung heap, my useless writhing
my silly ideas
my myopic view

On eagles wings
soaring
into his perfect Light

(For A Saint)

Faith, a glimmering fountain, poured:
Love from evil's fetters torn--
(And this cage of shadowed flesh)

Oh God-- in all of us, all of us
The Word's seed alone bears life
(A promise that we have not deserved.)

And in the sudden stillness,
The realization comes.
Behold:

Sin's iron grasp, now broken,
And too, that harder heart--
(Remember)

The lamb of God, so holy, Jesus--
Tasted death
(For me.)

Romans 5:6-11 King James Version

6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
